About Connecticut Mercury
Independent statewide journalism for Connecticut.
Connecticut Mercury is the state-level flagship of the Mercury Local network — a home for original Connecticut reporting, built on the same standard the network has already set on the ground in two Connecticut towns. Our own reporting starts with Weston, with more of the state to follow as it's reported out, not promised in advance.
Connecticut Mercury does not duplicate the town-level work already underway at our sibling papers. Instead, this site tracks it: dedicated town pages for Farmington and East Hampton surface the latest headlines from The Farmington Mercury and The East Hampton Mercury and link straight out to the original story on each paper's own site. One story, one URL, published where the reporting happened.
What We Cover

Our Standards
We name sources where possible. We protect sources when necessary. We correct errors prominently and without burying them. We do not publish anonymous tips as facts.
Bylines on Connecticut Mercury, including Jack Beckett, are house bylines used across the Mercury Local network so the publisher's name isn't on every piece — standard pen-name practice, not an undisclosed persona. Every piece is reviewed and approved by a human editor before it publishes. Nothing about a house byline relaxes our sourcing standards: no invented scenes, no invented quotes, no claim that isn't traceable to a real source.
When we make a mistake, you'll find the correction at the top of the story, not buried at the bottom in small type.

Connecticut Mercury is published by The Charlotte Mercury, LLC, based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mercury Local operates a network of independent local news sites built on the belief that local journalism works best when it's accountable to readers, not to ad networks.
